Portuguese is the official language of Portugal and Brazil, and also of a number of African countries, including Angola, Mozambique and Cape Verde. Portuguese has co-official status in Macao, and in East Timor and is an official language of the European Union, the African Union and the South American Latin Union. While there are important grammatical difference in Brazilian Portuguese, African Portuguese is closer to European Portuguese, although comprising local norms and a number of Portuguese creoles such as Cape Verdean Creole.
With over 200 million speakers, Portuguese is the fifth most-spoken language in the world, comprising some of the world's most dynamic emerging, high-growth economies, most notably Angola, the fastest growing economy in Africa, and Brazil, one of the "BRIC" economies, a rising global power and host of the 2016 Olympic Games and 2014 FIFA World Cup. Portuguese has been cited by UNESCO as having highest-growth potential as an "international communication language in Southern Africa and South America".
At Isarey Language Services, we specialise in European, African and Brazilian Portuguese translations, working out of our office in Lisbon and with trusted partners in other Portuguese-speaking countries. We handle all types of business, technical and legal documents, ensuring that your Portuguese translations are effectively localized to their intended readership and delivered with the assurance of local expertise.
